Using Your Herb Blends

When using herbal blends, you must know that you can experiment with them. Because everyone's tastes are not alike, you may want to use less of the herbal blend or use more.

Basic Recipe for Vinaigrette

1 Tbsp Herbal Blend
1/4 cup olive oil
Juice of one lemon
1 Tbsp white wine vinegar
1 tsp sugar

Refrigerate for a few hours to allow the flavors to blend.  Shake well before pouring.  Great on salads, as well as, grilled vegetables.

Basic Recipe for Marinade

1 Tbsp Herb Blend
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup water, orange juice, beer or wine

Marinate meats or vegetables one hour or longer in this mix before grilling or roasting.

Basic Recipe for Herbal Cheese Spread

1 Tbsp Herb Blend
8 oz soft cream cheese

Spread on bagels, English muffins, or crackers.  Another option is to form the mixture into small balls and roll in fresh chopped herbs.  Serve with crackers as an appetizer.

Basic Recipe for Dip

1 Tbsp Herb Blend
1 cup sour cream or 1 cup thick yogurt

Serve with fresh or lightly steamed vegetables or with chips.  Is also great for topping baked potatoes.

Basic Recipe for Croutons

1 Tbsp butter
1 Tbsp Herb Blend
2 cups dried bread crumbs

Mix together and bake in the oven on a cookie sheet until lightly brown.  Use in salads or sprinkle on casseroles before baking.
